Dollar higher despite China currency announcement

TOKYO: The dollar rose in Asia on Monday as investors mulled how serious China was about letting its currency rise following a weekend announcement of greater flexibility.

The dollar stood at 90.81 yen in Tokyo late morning trade, up from 90.71 yen in New York late Friday before Beijing’s announcement.

The euro bought 1.2385 dollars and 112.36 yen, both barely changed from New York levels.
