President, PM chair meeting of PPP senior leadership

A meeting of some selected federal ministers and senior leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar, Rehman Malik, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr Babar Awan, Senator Jahangir Badar, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, Senator Sardar Ali Khan, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Raja Parvez Ashraf, Ms Rukhsana Bangash, Ms Fouzia Wahab, Ms Fouzia Habib and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar.

Briefing media about the meeting, Spokesperson to the President said that overall political situation with particular reference to recent developments was discussed during the meeting.
The meeting noted that NRO related cases will come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on November 21.
The meeting vowed to vigorously defend the sanctity of the graves of the Mother of Democracy Begum Nusrat Bhutto and the icon of democracy Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

It expressed the hope that the cry for justice rising from the grave of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Baksh will also attract the attention of independent judiciary.
The meeting noted that Ambassador Hussain Haqqani had been called to Islamabad to give his view point to the country’s leadership on the controversial memo. It observed that natural justice demanded that the Ambassador was given a fair opportunity to give his version of the controversy.
Situation in Sindh also came under discussion and the meeting reiterated that the policy of reconciliation will continue.
The meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

President, PM chair meeting of coalition partners

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday chaired a meeting of coalition partners here at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The meeting was attended by Senator Ch. Shujaat Hussain, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Senator Dr. Babar Awan, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan, Senator Kalsoom Perveen, Munir Khan Orakzai, MNA, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, MNA, and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar. The President briefed the coalition partners on his recent visits to Iran, Afghanistan and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting also discussed issues relating to power and gas shortage and price-hike in the country.
The meeting that lasted for over two and half hours, also took stock of the current political and economic situation obtaining in the country.
Those who attended the meeting expressed views candidly on various critical issues.

President, PM chair meeting on energy issues

At a high level meeting on energy issues held here in the Presidency on Friday, it was decided to revamp power sector totally with a view to ending loadshedding and addressing other issues of non-sustainability of power sector.

The meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani was attended by Minister for Defense Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar, Minister for Privatization with additional charge of Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar, and the other senior officials concerned. Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar was also present during the meeting.

The President emphasized on the need to step up further exploration of indigenous energy resources and rationalization of import of energy.

The President and the Prime Minister took serious notice of continued power and gas loadshedding in the country and directed that no bureaucratic delays and bottlenecks be allowed to stand in the way of revamping the power sector.

Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that it was also decided to set up a committee comprising Minister for Religious Affairs and Labour and Manpower, Syed Khursheed Shah, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf MNA, Chairman APTMA (All Pakistan Textile Mills Association), MD Sui Northern Gas and businessman Anwer Saifullah Khan to make recommendations for the optimal usage of gas in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
